Riker & Pitcher Impress at Canadian Optimist Championship

Bermudian youth sailors Aaron Riker and Hudson Pitcher delivered strong performances on the international stage at the 2026 Canadian Optimist National Championship, hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. The six-day regatta, which ran from 18 to 23 August, brought together a premier fleet featuring the top Optimist racers from across Canada, Washington state, and the Bahamas. Following an opening two days of qualifying fleet racing and team racing alongside various Canadian crews, the fleet was split for a demanding four-race final series held in testing weather conditions over the final 48 hours. Pitcher produced an exceptional finals display to claim overall victory in the Silver Fleet, finishing top of the 64-boat division. In the marquee Gold Fleet, Riker faced fierce international competition across the four-race decider, battling through to cross the line 40th out of 66 competitors.
