Dion Stovell awarded Safe Hands Prize for Second Time

Dion Stovell has capped off his storied Cup Match career by being named the winner of the 2026 Bermuda HealthCare Calvin 'Bummy' Symonds / Dennis Wainwright Safe Hands Award. The veteran all-rounder received the prestigious accolade following another commanding display in the annual Cup Match classic at Somerset, marking the second time he has collected the trophy after previously winning it in 2024. The award, sponsored by Bermuda HealthCare Services (BHCS) under founder and executive chairman Dr Ewart Brown, recognizes outstanding individual performance and fielding excellence during Bermuda’s flagship cricket fixture. It also honours the enduring legacy of local sporting icons Calvin "Bummy" Symonds and the late Dennis Wainwright. "This year's recipient concluded an outstanding Cup Match career with a memorable performance at Somerset," said Vincent Hollinsid during Friday's presentation ceremony. "His contribution to Bermuda cricket extends well beyond this year’s classic, making today's recognition particularly fitting." BHCS Medical Director Dr Mahesh Reddy presented the award alongside family representatives, including Mrs Valerie Symonds and Mrs Natalie Wainwright. The recipient was chosen following deliberation by the Bermuda Cricket Umpires Association, led by president Mark McCormack, reaffirming Stovell's status as one of the most reliable and influential figures in modern Bermudian cricket history.
